What is Jungle Scout?

Jungle Scout is a popular software tool designed to help Amazon sellers with product research, listing optimization, and overall growth on the FBA platform.

Originally founded by Greg Mercer in 2015 as a simple Chrome extension to help him find products to sell on Amazon, it has continued to evolve into one of the longest-standing, most used, and well-known Amazon seller tools in the industry.

Today, Greg leads a team of 215 global employees including a high-level team of executives.

jungle scout team

Jungle Scout team members are encouraged to explore selling on Amazon in conjunction with their role in the company which helps them stay closely connected to the needs of the selling community.

What benefits does Jungle Scout offer Amazon sellers?

Through its innovative suite of tools, Jungle Scout offers users a number of benefits:

  • Confidence-Boosting: The product research features inside Jungle Scout help sellers make data-driven decisions on what products to sell. This helps launch with confidence knowing there is proven demand within your niche.
  • Time-Saving: Automation features like review requests and analytics reports help Amazon sellers save hours every week.
  • Money-Making: By using the powerful tools within Jungle Scout to make informed decisions you can launch more successful products, build a bigger Amazon FBA business, and ultimately put more money in your pocket.

Who is Jungle Scout best for?

Thanks to its wide range of features, Jungle Scout is a software that offers a lot of value for users at various stages in their selling journey.

  • Beginners will find the product research features particularly useful, alongside the keyword research and listing optimization features when creating their first listing.
  • Growing sellers will find also a lot of value in the ongoing management features such as Rank Tracker, Review Automation, and Advertising Analytics.
  • Large brands and agencies have the option of Jungle Scout’s enterprise features to add even more large-scale automation, but these features are outside the scope of this review.

What features does Jungle Scout offer?

Rather than a simple tool, the Jungle Scout web app has evolved into an entire suite of complimentary features broken down into sections that can help you in a number of areas in your Amazon FBA business:

1. Product research

Finding profitable products to sell on Amazon was the founding feature of Jungle Scout, and it remains at the very core of its functionality to this day.

There are a number of tools under the product research banner:

Product Database

Jungle Scout’s Product Database is your classic product filter software.

Enter your chosen criteria for metrics like:

  • Revenue
  • Price
  • Reviews
  • Star Rating
  • Size & Weight
  • and many others
jungle scout product database filters

Then choose the product categories you want to research.

jungle scout product database categories

Hit search and you’ll get a list of results that meet your chosen criteria.

jungle scout product database results

You can then start to look through the results for potential product ideas knowing they meet your base criteria.

Scroll along the product row to see all the key information:

product database results

Then click the Amazon icon to take a look at their listing:

jungle scout link to amazon

This is useful when looking for ways to differentiate as the best place to find ideas for improvement is in customer reviews.

Product Tracker

If you’re anything like me, you’ll be getting loads of ideas when scrolling through potential product opportunities.

Once you start to find these ideas you can add them to the Product Tracker tool:

jungle scout product tracker

This will then track the chosen products and display average pricing, revenue, and other key metrics.

This not only helps you organize and compare your ideas as you go, but also keeps you informed about how the market might be changing over time.

This then helps when you circle back around giving you the confidence to pick your next Amazon product to launch.

Opportunity Finder

Of Jungle Scout’s product research tools, Opportunity Finder — formerly Niche Hunter — is my favorite.

On first look, it seems very similar to the Product Database, but it’s actually a lot more powerful.

When you enter the criteria into this tool it will surface entire sub-niches that meet your criteria.

jungle scout opportunity finder

This is powerful because it eliminates any outlier products that the Product Database might surface.

These are products that may momentarily fit your criteria due to some unusual circumstances — like a seller liquidating their stock at bottom-of-the-barrel prices.

By using this “niche hunter” feature you filter for only those niches that contain an overall product range that fits your criteria.

Use the ‘Exclude Keywords’ filter for seasonal keywords if you happen to be carrying out product research around a holiday period. This helps avoid products that are trending only due to the time of year.

Category Trends

This is a simple tool that tracks the best seller rank of selected categories so you can see how different categories are changing in any given period.

jungle scout category trends

Browser Extension

The Jungle Scout Chrome extension is a handy addition that helps you quickly assess product opportunities.

When searching for products on Amazon, fire up the browser extension on a search results page and you’ll get a summary of key data for each product, including:

  • Price
  • Monthly sales & revenue
  • Estimated net profits
  • Review count & overall rating
  • Listing creation date
  • Product category
jungle scout chrome browser extension review

You’ll also get an ‘Opportunity Score’:

jungle scout opportunity score

It’s designed to score product opportunities based on:

  • Demand: According to units sold
  • Competition: According to review count
  • Listing Quality: According to a variety of factors including the number of images and length of title and bullet points

The guidance here is quite generic, particularly for demand.

If you have a budget of, say, $8,000 to launch a private label product you certainly don’t want to launch a product with an Opportunity Score of 10 as the demand would be far too high.

You’d stock out in a matter of days due to the sheer demand and struggle to ever rank organically.

But thankfully in Product Database, Product Tracker, Opportunity Finder, and the Jungle Scout Chrome extension, you’ve really got everything you need for effective product research on Amazon.

2. Suppliers

Once you’ve found products to sell, it’s time to find suppliers.

Jungle Scout comes in very strong here with two unique tools.

Supplier Database

The Supplier Database is so good it honestly feels like a massive cheat code for finding quality suppliers.

It scans publicly available import documents and matches them to businesses that sell on Amazon.

You can search using:

  • Product name
  • Company name
  • Supplier name
  • ASIN

And you’ll be presented with a list of potential suppliers that match the records.

jungle scout supplier database

Sometimes you’ll find there are a lot of results as the tool uses the officially registered business name and often businesses import many products from a range of suppliers.

So then your task is narrowing down which supplier is producing the product you’re looking to get made, then getting in contact with them.

Taking this route allows you to find high-quality suppliers fast.

Search using the products with the highest review rating as a way to choose the highest quality suppliers possible.

Once you find a potential supplier you like the look of, click to search for their contact info, and add them to the Supplier Tracker.

Supplier Tracker

This is more than just a simple database of supplier information. It helps with:

  • Communications: Add contact info for each of your shortlisted suppliers to quickly get in touch.
  • Sample analysis: Add photos and comments about the quality of any samples received for future reference.
  • Quote comparisons: Add quotes from suppliers as you get them to easily compare in one place.
  • Purchase orders: Once you’ve chosen a supplier, quickly create a professional purchase order to get manufacturing underway.

These tools are a big part of what separates Jungle Scout from its competition and will come in very handy when sourcing new products for your Amazon FBA business.

3. Keywords

Keyword research and listing optimization are crucial for getting your new products in front of the right customers.

Here’s where Jungle Scout can help you do just that:

Keyword Scout

Jungle Scout combines what other tools separate in allowing to search by keyword or ASIN in one place — Keyword Scout.

Entering a keyword will produce a list of related keywords with important data, including:

  1. Keyword search volume and trends: So you know how popular each keyword is.
jungle scout keyword scout
  1. PPC bid estimates: To give an idea of how expensive Amazon PPC ads might be.
keyword scout ppc bid estimates
  1. Ease to rank: To help prioritize keywords that you have a better chance of ranking for.
jungle scout ease to rank

You can also add extra filters to narrow down to your exact criteria:

keyword scout filters

Entering an ASIN will produce a list of keywords which that specific ASIN is ranking for with the same keyword data as a keyword search.

You can also add up to 9 competing ASINs to pull data from 10 products in total.

Unfortunately, the filter that would make this multi-ASIN search ultra valuable is missing: filtering by ranking competitors.

This would allow you to set the number of ASINs that should be ranking for a keyword which allows you to eliminate random outlier keywords.

But it’s not the end of the world, you can do this manually when checking through your keyword list.

Keyword Lists

Once you start finding keywords, you can add them to a list for future reference:

jungle scout keyword lists

Listing Builder

Once you’ve used Keyword Scout to create a complete list of keywords to target, it’s time to plug them into your listing.

With Listing Builder you can import your keyword list and begin to create your:

  • Title
  • Features
  • Description
  • Backend search terms

As you use the keywords in your product listings they will be crossed off in the ‘Keyword Bank’:

jungle scout listing builder

This helps make sure you’re getting as much keyword coverage (and as a result, ranking opportunity) as possible.

If you’re struggling to fit keywords into nice, flowing copy you can also try the AI-Assist features.

Use the ‘Listing Grader’ in the Toolbox section to assess existing listings and find opportunities for further optimization.

Rank Tracker

Finally, once your listing is launched, make sure you plug your most important keywords into the Rank Tracker.

This will help you monitor where your product is ranking in Amazon’s search results.

4. Marketing

Once your listing is optimized, it’s time to get some eyeballs on it.

Jungle Scout features some helpful tools on this front, too:

Review Automation

Customer reviews are the lifeblood of an ecommerce business, but they aren’t always easy to get.

Thankfully, Jungle Scout’s Review Automation automatically sends review requests to customers who purchased one of your products.

This saves you a ton of manual time and helps avoid missing out on any potential reviews.

It’s set and forget…

This means you can configure the settings (including which customer to not send requests to — like returned orders)…

And Jungle Scout will keep automating review request emails in the background with no further effort on your part.

Discounted sales used to be the holy grail of launch methods many years ago.

These days, a heavily discounted sale won’t move the needle much when it comes to organic ranking.

As such Jungle Scout’s Promotions tool is of much less importance than it might’ve been years ago and your efforts would be better used on other launch strategies like Amazon PPC and Google ads.

5. Advertising

If you’re wondering why ‘Advertising’ is in a different section to ‘Marketing’, well… me too.

There’s only one tool in the Advertising section:

Ads Analytics

Understanding the key metrics behind your Amazon PPC campaigns is vital to their success.

Ads Analytics provides all the data you need to do exactly this.

Once your Amazon account is connected you can quickly see a summary of perfomance:

jungle scout ppc performance

And then drill deeper into key metrics like:

  • ACOS
  • CTR
  • CVR
  • CPC

Not sure what these acronyms mean? Check out our in-depth Ecom Glossary!

Advertising (or marketing!) is Jungle Scout’s main area of weakness with no campaign management or automation features.

With that said, Helium 10 now charges extra for its PPC tool, and other competitors like Zoof and AMZ Scout don’t have PPC tools either.

So most sellers will be best off looking for a dedicated Amazon PPC software solution anyway.

6. Sales Analytics

As the sales start to roll in, you’ll naturally want to get a better understanding of how your FBA business is performing.

Unfortunately, Amazon’s native reporting features are average at best.

It’s hard to find the data you want, and impossible to get everything in one place. Thankfully, Jungle Scout is here to save the day with a couple of tools:

Profit Overview

Profit Overview is ‘your financial command center’ where you can view sales and profit data over time from a company perspective or in a multi-product dashboard.

You can see both historical and current profit data along with the cost breakdowns of your business to quickly analyze performance.

This is helpful in the short-term to monitor profitability…

But also in the long-term to help monitor costs over time:

jungle scout profit tracker

Keeping a close eye on your costs as they change over months and years is vital to maximize your profitability.

P&L Statement

Your P&L — or profit and loss — statement will then show both revenue and costs broken down by category.

This is another helpful tool that helps you track crucial metrics as you grow and maintain optimal financial health in your business.

7. Manage Products

Finally, this section will allow you to adjust costs and settings for each of your products to ensure the reporting features throughout Jungle Scout are accurate.

Plus, Jungle Scout users will also find:

Inventory Manager

Jungle Scout’s Inventory Manager will help you keep track of stock levels and predict when you need to place orders with suppliers in order to stay in stock.

It does this by monitoring your sales data along with the lead times you set and updating you when you need to place an order.

Jungle Scout also offers help with claiming reimbursements for stock lost or damaged in Amazon’s warehouses.

The tools are all very straightforward and well laid out — the user interface really is second to none.

You also have access to the Jungle Scout Academy:

It includes a range of tutorials that help you get maximum value out of all the tools included.

My experience with Jungle Scout

Jungle Scout was the very first Amazon seller tool I invested in way back in 2017.

It helped me find my first product to sell, and its wide range of features has helped me grow my Amazon sales over the years.

I’ll admit: I’ve used Jungle Scout tools less over recent years as other tools have entered the market.

However, with recent improvements in data accuracy and PPC analytics I’ve found myself using it more and more as an active subscriber:

jungle scout subscription

I’ve always been a big fan of the Supplier Database, too.

This is a tool that I can’t get anywhere else and having it is really useful for finding the best suppliers for new products.

What others are saying

Don’t just take my word for it.

Jungle Scout is a well-respected tool in the Amazon FBA space, and that shows in its profile with major review platforms:

  • Trustpilot rates Jungle Scout at a 4.7/5 from over 3,500 reviews
  • G2 rates Jungle Scout at a 4.6/5 from over 100 reviews
  • Capterra also rates Jungle Scout at a 4.6/5 from over 100 reviews

A quick search of popular Amazon FBA Facebook groups will also show you that there is a lot of positive support from existing Jungle Scout customers.

Jungle Scout support

Jungle Scout’s support is one of its great strengths.

With a large team of over 200 members who are all encouraged to sell on Amazon themselves, the support is attentive and knowledgeable.

If you are in need of support you can easily reach the customer support team via the Jungle Scout website, or browse the detailed Help Center.

Jungle Scout alternatives

Jungle Scout stands head and shoulders above much of its competition, but for those sellers it isn’t a perfect fit for, here are some alternatives:

1. Helium 10

helium 10 homepage

Helium 10 is Jungle Scout’s biggest rival and closest competitor.

Having launched in 2016 shortly after Jungle Scout, the two tools have been shoulder to shoulder leading the way for many years now.

In reality, they’ve probably both benefitted from such strong competition as it has forced continual innovation and development.

There are a few areas Helium 10 has advanced quicker with its tool set.

For example, the PPC automation features available with its Adtomic tool are far more advanced than what Jungle Scout offers on the advertising front.

However, this does come at an extra cost, and Jungle Scout also has unique features like the Supplier Database.

2. Zoof

zoof homepage

A newer competitor to Jungle Scout created by the founders of Amazin Selling Machine, Zoof is a high-quality tool suite at an attractive price point.

While it doesn’t have as wide range a feature set as Jungle Scout, it does have some unique features like ‘Omni Detective’ to help find products to sell across multiple channels beyond Amazon.

3. Viral Launch

viral launch homepage

Another of Jungle Scout’s early competitors that hasn’t quite kept the same pace as Helium 10 has.

However, the suite of tools is still diverse and of good quality at a reasonable price point.

Jungle Scout FAQs

No, Jungle Scout does not offer a free trial. Instead, new users are offered a risk-free 7-day money-back guarantee. No. Jungle Scout is a lot more than a product research tool. The web app offers a variety of tools that help Amazon sellers with a number of tasks including keyword research with Keyword Scout, listing optimization, business analysis, inventory management, and the Jungle Scout review automation tool. Product research is a big part of what Jungle Scout offers, but there is plenty more beyond that, too.

Jungle Scout features full support for the Amazon marketplaces in the US, Canada, Mexico, UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. It also offers limited support in India, Japan, Netherlands, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Australia, Singapore, and Brazil.

The best plan for you really does depend on your goals and the current stage of your Amazon business and we’d encourage you to read through this Jungle Scout review to determine which tools you need. Most new sellers will find the Suite bundles the best value, whereas if you are a growing seller or simply have a higher budget and want to access all that Jungle Scout has to offer, the Master Bundle would be perfect.

Conclusion: Is Jungle Scout worth it?

While there are a few small features we’d like to see added like:

  • PPC management
  • Extra reverse ASIN filters

Overall Jungle Scout is a tool we’d highly recommend.

Both beginners and experienced Amazon sellers will get a lot of value out of a subscription.

The wide range of tools on offer means Jungle Scout can help:

  • Beginners with finding products to sell and carrying out keyword research for their first listing
  • Intermediate sellers with optimizing their listings for improved conversion rate
  • Advanced sellers with tracking, analytics, and operational optimizations

The quality of the user interface is exceptional and overall the software is a joy to use.

Jungle Scout is one of the best tools in the industry, and with the savings on offer (plus a money-back guarantee) taking it for a spin really is a no-brainer.
